I might go have a look in the weekend.

Any known common problem with this model that I should watch out for?

Great truck...the Prado......
Good suspension...
Great running gear.
2.4 are a little small for the LWB...
2.4 have a habit of failing (cracked heads) if they are pushed to hard or not maintained. Mostly cooling issues.
But then again its big brother the 3.0 has similar issues...

The Prado has a rear difflock so a bonus for the snow. And a winch for when you get more stuck.
Surf should offer better on road handling. Though the Prado isn't bad either.
The Prado will do better off road, and c'mon lets be realistic, you'll get the bug and want to go further with it. And remember it has a rear diff lock and a winch. :-)
Both have the gutless(ish) 2.4 engine.

94 prado should be a 3L 1Kzte ... the 2.4's (2LTE) were 1990-1992, also the later ones seem to be going for $8500-$10000+ with a difflock, theres usually a 3.0L badge on the back doors ... this one doesnt have one

Known faults Head, ECU ...
70 series prado (KZJ78) and 90 Series Prado (KZJ95)

That doesn't look like a 94.
I would be suspicious of the carjam report...
Great trucks though.

I have the 93' SWB 3.0 SX - 297 000km on the clock and the previous owner replaced the head, radiator and cam belt. Having a few starting issues but it runs like a dream. Recently drove to Cape Reinga via 90 mile and back through the corromadel and back to Welly without a blip of an issue fully laden. Been a bit cautious without a winch but yet to find a place to get stuck locally. She goes anywhere. Limited space however if you have a family.

Good luck
