rear drag link ???

Post by michaelmohr »

Hey guys, I've finally gotten underway with repairing my old 84 surf.

I've found the original WOF sheet from a couple of years ago, the last one it's had, and on it is a fail:

rear drag link

Now I've looked quite closely i'd say but I can with my best intentions not find a drag link on the rear axle or anything else that would resemble such a thing even on the front axle at least nothing that looks like this: http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=707

Might the tester probably been meaning the rear end of the center drag link (front axle obviously) like this one: http://i.ebayimg.com/t/ONE-CENTER-DRAG-LINK-TOYOTA-DYNA-100-85-95-RHD-/02/!Bs6,goQEGk~$(KGrHqYOKiQEu4ucKdmLBL5)InVMgw~~_12.JPG

cheers guys. MM

Hi,
The drag link from the steering box to the right hand front wheel, rear would be referring to rear ball joint at the wheel end.

OK, now that I've identified the part, what could be wrong with it, how do I find that out and how do I repair it? tester said (on WOF sheet) that it needs adjusting.

Cheers for helping a layman! :-)

On the end, remove the split pin, clean out all the gunk in the end, insert a largish screwdriver and tighten. Then reinsert the split pin.

Workshop manual say to tighten til firm then loosen one turn.

You may want to remove the screw, spring and cup, and check for wear, there is a large spring in behind the grubscrew you are screwing out/in and then a curved cup that can wear out.

Ok done. I pulled it all out, gave it a clean and grease up and put it back in. Although, when I press some grease into the nipple it squirt out from underneath the rubber (yeah, go on, have a laugh!!!) forwards of the link/joint. I can't quite think that's normal. any thoughts?
