front knuckle rebuild parts kzj78 need help finding parts
Hi
Im about to rebuild my front knuckles, replace wheel bearings, rotors and wheel studs. Its a kzj78 front axle.
Where is the best places to buy each of these things in christchurch? and rough prices?
Does anyone have a link to the torque settings for the wheel bearings and kingpin bearings and the correct resistance for the scale pull tests for knuckle and wheel bearings?
Thanks John

Re: front knuckle rebuild parts kzj78
Rotors from Import Parts.
Why are you replacing the wheel studs?
I got my knuckle kit from South Island Bearing Supplies. It does not have the shims in it. Looking at other kits later, it seems that The Terrain Tamer ones are good. They do have shims. They also use Koyo bearings, same as Toyota.
Old Blue suggested I replace the cv shaft seals inside the spindles. Important these are done if still using the electric FWHs. I got these seals from Toyota. The bronze bushes immediately inboard of these are shorter in length than the normal non electric FWH ones. Toyota wanted $256 ea for these! Good place to get the Toyota part numbers is toyoDIY. Google the part numbers (xxxxx-xxxxx) and often you can get the part description and dimensions etc.
If you look on my Front axle rebuild thread you will see a link that Jafa put up to his rebuild thread on Pirate. Has the swivel pull lbs force requirements there. It is for a Hilux, however I think the steering arms are a similar length, thus giving you the same torque figure.
One thing a lot of people don't know. When setting up taper roller bearings it is very important to keep spinning the assembly to settle the rollers onto the races. If you don't do this the bearings will quickly become loose.

cheers for ya help. will track down your thread. yeah i been reading up on a lot of things and know about spinning the hub lots of time to set rollers. yeah i running the electric hubs bout are converted to manual. i am having trouble finding the settings online for torque etc. haynes dont if do a manual for the kzj78 prado from what i've researched. re the wheel studs well a couple are stripped from day dot when i got the sas done. (never going back to that workshop again) this "shop" supplied everything for the sas swap including seized calipers, stripped wheel studs, different ratio diff etc. so basically i want to get everything sweet in the front end so i have no more surprises from it.

guy on trade me, bts taranaki does a kit. pretty reasonable price. didnt actually use his bearings as all ready had bought genuine, but pretty sure his jap made too. will have a look. i run hilux hubs and stubs, so it means i have to buy 2 kits to do the whole job. should have just gone the old blue route. haha.

Re: front knuckle rebuild parts kzj78 need help finding part
not long, a month or so. but driven near 100k daily. compared it to a couple old kits i have sitting around for my old vehicles, nothing seems cheap or compromised. got quite a work out today towing out firewood from the back of my place. no issues with anything. just make sure, that if it says shims on the ad, he farken puts them in the pack!!! he didnt with mine, offered to send me some, but needed them before he could get them to me.

Ring Don Kyatt (terrain tamer) - 09 263 6021 - they have all the bits you need, and can deliver to your door.
Re: front knuckle rebuild parts kzj78 need help finding part

Re: front knuckle rebuild parts kzj78 need help finding part
I got my terain tamer kit from lineside believe it or not and it was about $140 from memory. I was supprised at how cheap it was. Wheel bearings I get from wilson brothers but I do get trade there but we could organise something and discs from bnt which is the same deal. Let me know and we can organise something. Can help you do it as well.

Fully recommend the tripple lip inner axle seals that suzolla sells, they are the only ones if had in that have never leaked, worth every cent

Shame that they fit the Hilux axle and not the Prado.
Hilux is diameter and face mount. Prado only diameter mount.
