Rebuilding D21 terrano gearbox

So i have two options with my gearbox from my terrano, i either buy one off trade me for $1300 and exchange my box, which to me seems a bit pricy. Second option is to rebuild it myself. I can get the parts at trade and have a bit of mechanical experience (rebuilt engines and a couple of car gearboxes) Only problem being is finding the time to do it and not having all the right tools at home.
Question is, has anyone rebuilt one of these boxes them selfs? If so, how hard is it and do you need and speical tools? Im assuming a decent press will be needed which i could take the box to work if needed (work for toyota)
Any other advice before i jump in head first?
I would love to do it myself, as than i know its been done right and if it shits itself i only have one person to blame (you guys for telling me i could do it

)

Are you capable of diagnosing the fault and rectifing it? To replace bearings isn't hard (with the right tools) if you've got experience with gearboxes. Theres links to workshop manuals in other threads on this forum (try search 'fs5w71c'). Just be up to you whether you can afford the downtime of vehicle, or time of repair (hours tick up quickly..).
If you wanted a good condition s/h box PM me.
Cheers,
Nath

I did one myself. Replaced bearings and input shaft plus lay shaft gear. No special tools needed to do that much just a big press. Just make sure you lay things out in the correct order when you disassemble it, a lot of the parts can go in wrong.

A good used gearbox around $600 no more
if you pay a mercanic up to 6 to7 hours labour
do it your self works out great at $600 for part
just pull out plug in good used save a lot worry
I have asked a few with these trucks any hassels
its tie rods if used off road or gearboxes if unserviced
