92 Terrano Auto not shifting out of Park?

Hi all,
I have a 92 Terrano with the TD27T engine.
And i cannot press to change gears unless i push that little red lever down behind the gear stick.
What could be the cause, There is only one button on brake pedal which works because the brake lights come on. Unless there is a trigger somewhere else?

do you mean out of park?
the orange button on mine has to be pushed down before i can move it out of park, everything else is fine.
It started when i had to change ignition barrels, ended up with a navara one so may be electrical?

Google "nissan shift interlock"
And look at the images..Something will look similar.
At a guess the solenoid is playing up or one of the switches..
My Toyota has a similar system.
All else fails remove the mechanism in the shifter.....

I just pulled the whole center console out remove shifter and pulled the solenoid. And if i connect it up to a battery it works. So it's not that.
Does anyone know if there is a relay for it? Or where the control module is?

When you had the key in the on postion and when you put your foot on the brake could you hear the centre consol soildnoid ticking? And check if the brake lights are working to make sure it's not the foot brake switch

Yes its linked to your foot brake. Sow the switch is around the footbrake location.

Yes, The first thing i checked was the switch on the brake pedal.
It is working, brake lights are coming on, Fuses are fine. No power is going to the solenoid.
What is this box for?

The annoying one that should beep at you when you leave your lights on or leave the door open with the key in the ignition.
earlier models used to have a cable from the brake to the locking mechanism on the shift lever. If yours is a solenoid type then remove the ignition again and inspect the wires on the rear of the barrel as I suspect the wire has either broken or not contacting where it should when the key is placed in the on position.
If all else fails, simply find the locking solenoid on the park lever and run a new wire from the positive on the solenoid to the wire which comes from the (ON) position behind the ignition barrel.

But which wire is it? Where is the control module? Is there a relay? I have checked the 4 wires behind the barrel and they are fine. There are another two sets of wires which come off the sides, which I don't know what are for? Out of all the manuals I have I cannot find anything about the shift lock. Only in other manuals which have a total different system.

Sister in law had a cefiro automatic that had a cable that ran from the ignition somewhere down to the trans that if jammed or broken didn't allow the auto to be moved out of park without the red button being pushed

If i leave my lights on, the sound does not come from that box.
It comes from somewhere near the glove box. Also there is no noise when i leave the key in the ignition and open the door.
Also have made no progress with this problem.
I have zipped tied the override down.

as above all else fails pull the centre console out and find the solenoid and hard wire it to the on position on the ignition.

Good News Everyone
After taking the seat out pulling up the carpet following all the wires that little control box is for the Shift lock.
It looked fine and smelt fine (no burnt smell that is).
But decided to open it up and have a look just to make sure, and guess what? Its burnt out
So hopefully when i get a new one it should all work.
Brand new online for $81AUD or tomorrow i'll go to the wreckers and see if they have one for around $20 i presume.

As bad as it looks, it may not be all that bad. Looks to me like the solder joints have gone dry (high resistance) where the plug pins are soldered to the board. Have a scratch around there, clean it up and re solder the plug pins. It may still be a goer for you?

Cleaned and resoldered and no go, it has melted the board.
Got one of a 93 terrano same part number.
I can hear and feel a click from the box when i put my foot on the brake but still not able to take out of park?

Then you need to test and trace the wiring from the box to the solenoid on the lever mechanism as your diagnosis is telling me that is where the fault lies.
