Terrano Brakes

Post by kiwinoz »

I've been looking for a Brake Master cylinder for my '89 Terarno for a few weeks. Seems hard to find, over here (aust) imports seem to be frowned upon, I often get "oh, one of those......nah can't get them".
On ebay most of them are for disc/drum brakes, not disc/disc. The one in my wagon has "AB 36" written on it, the one in my Pathfinder has "BM 44" on it disc/drum. Is there much difference?
I imagine a vehicle with drum brakes at the back might need more fliud pushed back there..

Are these correct one more commonly available there in NZ?

Cheers

When I changed rear diff from drums to drum/disc combos the brakes worked great with the same master cylinder. I wound think a D21 Navara would be the same. Offer is there to find one here and send over to you.

Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

A drum brake master cylinder has a residual pressure valve in it. So it keeps a small amount of pressure in the line. A disk brake cylinder doesnt do that. So if you use a master cylinder from a vehicle with drums on the back onto one with disc on the back the valve will have to be taken out of the master cylinder or your rear brakes might not release properly.
