Any Nissan gurus out there tell me if there's any advantage to fitting a na head to a turbo motor, buying a car and the motor has all been rebuilt and was re reading it and the guy said he had fitted a head off a sr20 which had been fully conditioned.
Just wondering what the advantage to this would be?
Cheers

You will have to drill out the head bolt holes in the N/A head to match the turbo block as i am assuming it is a 20det block from either a silvia/180sx or GTIR.

All so (depending on what pistons it has been built with )get the head face shaved to help raise the compression as it will probably only have a 9.5-10 to 1 compression ratio being a turbo block.

the other option would be to actually turbo charge it since the bottom end is already done. wouldn't take much to get even a used det head tested resurfaced ports polished and new valve stem seals and guides installed.

must be a 20det out there somewhere with a crook block going cheap.

there is no diff between a de and a det head. wont lift the compression or anything. dont shave the head as it will eradicate the squish bands and also when you set the timing up everything wont line up. it wont lift the compression that much.

as far as im aware only the gtir uses bigger head bolts, n/a and turbo have same sized head bolts. the gtir is the mongrel of the sr family.

turbo block will be 8.5:1 ratio.
