Well I noticed a slight leak from the top of the waterpump today but on closer inspection the top bolt head was on a slight lean so I decided to take it out and that's when it turned to custard it wasn't in very tight and was a bent bolt and half the thread was stripped tried putting in a new bolt in very carefully to no such luck, Question is it a good idea to tap a new thread into it and go up a size or you reckon try and repair he thead there , Also is there plenty of steel back there to tap a slightly larger size bolt ?

If you are a little worried about going to a larger bolt, you can get a thread insert that will use the same bolt but will require a slightly larger tap.

get a helicoil kit for the bolt you are using, available from most engineering shops, remember to get the correct size drill at the same time, then just follow the instructions inside the box
remember to spend time to get straight and true, even if it means pulling stuff out to gain prober access, it will be worth it in the end
