Tipping trailer help

Post by nigelpnz »

I have a 7.5ft x 4ft tipping trailer. Its well balanced and rides nicely but the tipping function is all manpower. When you get a decent load on you cant lift it and now I am looking for some mechanical input.

The options I am looking at are:

frame pivot mounted ram (3T) mounted on front of trailer however limited to about 500mm travel

hand winch over pulley on tilting bar that slides front of the trailer up the bar through winch input.

Any other ideas out there?

I like the idea of ram mounted underneath but that means 12v power required or batteries.

Used my mates one that makes use of a 60" high lift. He took the base plate of and mounted it through the bottom hole as a pivot point and then bolted it through the lifting foot to another pivot

get two of those rams from a hydraulic body repair kit, mount under the deck like normally seen on a truck/ trailer unit. May take a few calculations to get it in the right spot along the frame to use the maximum lift in the shortest amount of travel vs the capacity of the ram.....didn't pass school C physics.

Run hydraulic line to the draw bar or there abouts and bolt the cylinder/ hand/12 volt pump to that.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

I just mounted a 6000 pd winch under the deck, located centrally over the axle to keep weight transfer even, and then ran that up a collapsible mast on the draw bar. Battery is not permanently mounted and it gets hooked up using jumper leads when I need it. Can tip off 2.5t with out too much trouble.
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

I have just purchased a 60" hilift so will give that a go first. If it doesnt work then I still have a hilift jack!

I need to do my numbers re load vs lift - time to dig out the old school books.....

It may be worth shortening the trailer frame and moving the tipping point right up behind the wheels so that the load will assist with the tipping
