CHCH 1991 Pajero SWB newbie

Kia ora friends, newbie here!!! just got a standard 1991 SWB pajero which i wrapped up witha fresh set of mudders. Love this truck to bits, I am finding any excuss to drive it 
so far my 4wd experience is limited but I have finding a few neat little tracks near my place. Looking to further kit out my wagon with a snorkel and will look at further goodies if my interest develops. Seems like everyone talks about the waimak but I have yet to set tyres on the river bed. Looking for anyone who can show me the ropes as I often hear 4wd horror stories about people who go for a solo bash. So if anyone has the patience i'm all hears. also keen to know what people recommend for mods for my wee truck (keeping budget in mind
