Don't ever by a car thats painted yellow its just too easy to call it a lemon if things start to go wrong!

The motors truely sh@gged now, I had it fixed up after the last issue.... well apart from a slight rattle that could be heard under load Hmmmmm
200k's later and one cracked head and some badly cooked bearings (burning oil is not a good smell!), I'm ready to do the supra transplant

I've sorced a 2.8 from a local wreakers along with loom and comp for $650 (+ anything else I need to do the swop)

So what I need to know is what else do I need off the supra ??

This is a work wagon that I need to work so I will be charging this
any tips would really be appreciated!

Supurb choice dude.
Right oh.....Bellhousing,flywheel,air flow metre. your local wreaker wouldn't do a whole front cut would he? Just asking because there are lots of little things that help like relays and if your keen to save alittle money, I used two a/c electric fans (infront of the condenser) as cooling fans for the radiator, I think the second one cost me $5 and I had to make the mounts. One more very important thing is the fuel pump.

Too good to be true turns out the one I found is an auto... we are trying to find a clutch, bellhousing and flywheel off a manual jsut to finish the pic
Cleared the old motor today... hopefully I can get the go on the extra parts and I grab them tomorrow

Good luck finding the bellhousing / clutch / flywheel - the manual supras are pretty rare and with all the conversions that have been done there will be sweet fa of them left out there I think

Thanks god i did mine early Another option I have been looking at to avoid the 5-speed problem is doing the auto conversion. I believe the 7M auto bellhousing mates to the Hilux auto transmission - just can't remember which models mate to which - Mike (SupraSurf) may have a better idea on this one.

I'm keen to try this mod (meaning I would have a bellhousing / flywheel / clutch for sale ) because it seems like a good cheap way to get a nice daily driving vehicle that can crawl better than a manual.

All ready looking into that... Mike (suprasurf) sugested an A340 series auto, out of a prado or later model surf, its sposed to bolt on using a surf auto bell housing, the catch is the supra computer won't run it so its a manual shift auto... and all the parts are easy enough to get hold of, if not a bit expensive through the wreakers!

Tell me what I will need to run an auto behind a 4ltr v8, also anyone out there who wants a complete 2ltr celica conversion to hilux. From the crank pulley to the gear box, incl the ECU. Needs new clutch plate.

I'm currently doing a bit of reading (trying to learn electronics so I can do it) I don't think this will link to the trans tho??, if you don't go down this path then your looking serious coin to run a lexus I've had the motor sitting in the shed for almost a yr now waiting on a cheap solution!

And Mike don't be worryed about the dual transferes, they're on the list.
The whole 4ltr V8 thing is me playing around with ideas, I can't help but notice that every man and his truck seems to be doing the supra thing Don't get me wrong its a bloody good conversion. I'm at the point with this truck of mine that it is time too put the motor back in. So therefore I have to decide do I stay the same, or do I get carried away?

hmmmm well, the pieces of the jigsaw keep changing!
The motor I was going to use turned out to be a 2L not a 2.8 and some of those fiddly vacum bits off the top were missing .... not that I'd want to use it anyway, not enough power for work, but I have managed to source another 2.8 out of a cresseda, but.... the wreakers not certain if its a go'er. going to have a look at that today
Got some new axles and a 5 speed box from a 96hilux, all good apart from the levers were taken off the box to help get it out and now they are lost (not me the guy I bought it from he is still trying to find me a pair of levers)
I'll be lifting the cab off today and doing any repairs needed, and if I get time I'll swop over to the new axles & put the the spare rear springs onto the front, next thing I need to sort out is a IFS steering box and mount that in and put the body lift blocks in

Oh I just bought a dig cammera on trademe last night so there might be some pics soon

Shouldn't have lifted the cab off .... lets just say the chassi is swiss chease! I'm now building a jig to help me rebuild it, can't find another one in the bay at a fair price
But I did get some good news I get the motor & everything I need to make it run for $200 that includes access to another 2.8 in the yard

And the bargin turns out to be anything but ...... aka My f'ing lemon
