wot sort of mileage do you guys think you should get out of this motor b4 it starts loosing power & needs rebuild;on average? I would assume a auto behind one might be easier on it ;& maybe would get a higher milage?

supposed to be over 400,000KM's if serviced properly, ie oil every 5k etc

most of these engines are cracking heads before they do 200,000 kms. they are turning in to 2lts!!. maybe its because they are a highly stressed engine putting out decent power as well as poor servicing in japan. ring a engine reconditioner and ask them, they may have bad news for you.

Spoke to Scotty at Diesel Pumps in Christchurch and he reckoned they are an improvement on the 2lt (obviously) but said that they can't stand an over heat very well compared to cast heads etc

Seems to be common theme with all turbo diesels, though I would not go as far as to say that the 1kz is as bad as the 2lt. Think 400k is pretty realistic with 5k oil changes, though of course that depends on the state of the motor when it was bought....but thats another story
