Softening Hilux Ride!!
Softening Hilux Ride!!
Own a 1985 doublecab Hilux, bumps and bounces like nothing else when going off road! last owner has put fairly new leaf springs in but are only standard and have maxitrac shocks in. What can i do to fix this without spending too much cash? Thanks
Re: Softening Hilux Ride!!
what size tyres and pressures are you running while offroad?
Re: Softening Hilux Ride!!
31" at the moment, upgrading to 33's in couple weeks but run them at around 20psi when off road
Re: Softening Hilux Ride!!
33s might make a difference.are you fitting tubes?not much you can do apart from pulling the leaf packs apart and trying different combos of leafs.do you carry much weight?have you got the old shocks?
Re: Softening Hilux Ride!!
Nah tubeless, took out a couple leafs and that improved the problem slightly might just have a bit of a play around with them. Do not have the old shocks but am looking for an old half worn set as the current ones are stiff and would like to see what difference it makes.
Re: Softening Hilux Ride!!
ranchos 9000's are adjustable shocks, mite be worth a look.
Re: Softening Hilux Ride!!
Removing an overload spring may make a small difference, also consider removing one of the shorter leafs as well, depending on how many leafs you have in your pack. Less springs should make your body sit lower, so then you can consider putting in longer spring shackles, which will return a bit of ride height and soften the springs down a bit too. Doing this in the front may alter your steering geometry also.
Don't remove many leafs as you will end up with diff wrap and start off a whole lot of other issues, snapping springs etc.
