Gearbox oil, Vitara

Post by vitz »

Hey all

Anyone have a suggestion for good gear box oil that doesn't cost the earth.
I have used Red Line in other cars and I know its awesome and I use it in the front diff but its expensive as hell!

After something that will make it shift smooth as butter.

I just use standard 75w-90 in the front diff, it heaps cheaper! Used it in the transfer case even though I think its recommended for hypoid drives and it seems to go ok. Might be worth a shot in a manual but it's risky.

Yes you want a GL4 oil because the GL5 has additives that don't like brass. I used Castrol oil in my zuk with no issues.

Brother in law bought a 20L of gearoil from ADL in Auckland, not sure of the brand. I normally use Fuchs from BNT, seems good for all the other oils.
