pto into gen 2

Post by hello24 »

i know this has been covered many times but i am yet to find the answer i am after.
is there anyway to fit a pto from a gen1 to a 3.5 v6 gen2 what would be involved? can the gear be transfered into the transfer case to make the pto mesh? or possibly swap out the gen1 transfer case completely for the gen2.
im sure there are a few out there that have done it so would love to know thanks

The answer is in the question..... Is the gearbox code for the Gen 1 PTO box the same as the code for the Gen II?

my understanding (and this only what i have heard, i havnt done this) is that the pto matchs up to the side of the transfer case etc, but there is no cog inside the box to match up to it. So apparently you can get a very clever engineering type chap to make a cog to match the gear on the pto and then somehow magically insert it into the transfer case. then you have the issue of where to site the controls in the cab as the inside of a gen 2 is a bit different to a gen 1.

there is a bit of info at this thread, although most of it is focused on a gen1 v6

All the writing has been for a 3.0 litre engine, the 3.5 transmission is a different beast. It would be possible, (anything is) but it would be a costly job. The PTO winch will bolt up. The output on the gearbox is totally different and would need an adapter made or something. Even if it did there is the issue of the gears not being the right amount of teeth to connect.

The way to get a PTO onto a 3.0 gen 2 pajero is to put the gear from the early model gen 1 (non super select) into the gen 2 super select gearbox.

Now in theory the gen 2 3.0 gearbox and transfer case 'should' bolt up to the 3.5 engine. You will need new gearbox mounts as they are different, driveshafts modified etc.

Go for it :)
