Hilux advice wanted on fitting pintle hook

Post by dratsum »

So I'm new to the scene and still learning. Over the weekend went on a trip into the Akatarawas with ccvc club and the day before the trip i decided that my towbar needed to f**k off.

Bit rough
Bit rough

Heaps more clearance! But in hindsight i wish i had thought this through a bit better.
I want to attach a pintle hook ( http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductDetails ... uctID=4150 ) or a combination pintle ( http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductDetails ... uctID=4151 ) to the rear of my ute.
What would be the best way to do this?
I'm thinking get a welder/engineer to use the bar that the towbar came off and weld a plate to attach pintle to?
Bar should be legit since it was made to have a towbar on it anyway, right? Also according to ccvc rules your not supposed to tow of a towbar - but surely this would be ok?
Any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated - also any recommendations on where to get it done!

TWL have 30000lb ones for $90+gst and theyre made in usa,id buy one through them.
As with snatch towing with a snatch strap, its possible to get around 4 ton plus on the hook and its mountings,so extra bracing and a stronger over all build is required on the mounting, the stronger the better!
That's my two cents

Cool thanks, sorry if im blind but where did you get prices from?
Also another rookie question  after i grinded off towbar i sprayed some wd on it and left as is.
Will that be sweet for a week or so until i get this done or should i really be doing something about that?
