Ive just taken out my 1k 3 lt diesel out of my truck that had a bit of a prang. Before the accident it was all running sweet. After draining the sump I noticed some metal deposits in the oil.I did drive it off the tow truck into my garage but am wondering that starting it after the crash was wise...IE missallined drive train putting load on the bearings. Is there any way of diagnosing if there is a problem with out the motor being run , or dropping the sump etc.
Would hate to bolt it all into the new truck and find its knackered!

I'm no expert on this....
perhaps you could send an oil sample to be analyzed. That will tell you what the metal bits are from ( e.g. bottom end bearings) and will allow you to make a decision from there. I imagine replacing the bottom end bearings while the motor is out of the truck would be a much easier job. If the oil test showed say, a damaged crank, then it will become more expensive.

pop the sump and take the caps off one by one and check the bearings , worst case you are going to have to put a new set in.
Re: PRADO 1kz
I`d say do the bearings and get the crank checked anyway, will be cheap insurance if you are planning on keeping it for a while.

And clean clean clean, then clean more.
Swarf is not your friend.
Taking the caps off then check the top end, should tell you whats happening.
If the bottom end is rooted thats a bummer but better than hanging a leg out of bed to tell you its not happy.
