Another Terrano in Welly...

Post by mongoose007 »

G'day everyone, I'm Chris, in the Wellington region.

Kept an eye on the forums for a while, thought I should introduce myself (feels a bit creepy just watching haha).

I got a diesel Terrano (D21) originally to ferry people across for tramping and as a general hauler (I do some weekend wood working, so it's useful to fit longer boards in/on).

Started mods with a 3" suspension rise (springs in the rear, wind up the front) after it started bottoming out with 5 people + gear, but looking at doing more now.

At the moment, looking into upping the diesel (waiting on pyrometer delivery) and maybe a 3" body raise.

Looking at heading across to one of the next ccvc shiny events in the not so distant future, anyone a member here?

Welcome mate, sounds like you've got a good idea of what you want to do with it, have a chat to fullthrottle I believe he's in the CCVC and happens to own a terrano.

Cheers
Dan

P.s. Us terrano nuts like pics

Welcome to the site. Just to put a dampener on your body lift thoughts, you can only go to a 2" lift on a Terrano.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Yeah, apparently there is too much leverage on the body mounts for anything over 2" and as you state, certifiers will not cert over 2"
You will find in the states there is bugger all certifying. If you find the 2" body lift is not enough you can go to about 2.5" suspension lift. Anything over this and you basically run out of bump stop gap in the front. My truck has 2" BL and 2.5" SL with 33" tyres, but I would not recommend going over 32" tyres. In fact I feel my truck handled its best on 31" tyres.

Any other q's, don't hesitate to ask, advice is free.

Ner, no dampner at all Pete, no particular reason for 3" vs 2", just to get a bit more clearance with the tyres (although I should probably correct the offset on my spare rims first!).

I do wonder about going 33" tyres, at times, and the old 3" body +3" susp = 33"... Pete, I know you've got a terrano too, what tyre size are you running?

So, hypothetically, you'd have to reinforce the body mount (e.g. take some ribs out to the rest of the body) to put in higher?

And as for certs.... they don't even have wofs over there! Redneck as in some places!

Matt, not going to get along to the one this month, too much on. Was thinking next month. You going to be along to that?

Let me know if there's anything I should bring along, just got the single front pull point + rear tow mount (prob minus the ball), + newish AT tyres... presume that'll do for the start?

(Plus the kit not attached to the truck, shovel, 1st aid, tyres, snatch/pull straps, extinguisher..)

Regardless what you did re reinforcing, I doubt a certifier would cert a 3" lift, but you could always ask one?

I run 33" tyres but I feel it was a mistake to do so, they are too big for a Terrano IMHO and add to the steering issues we all suffer. I will be dropping to 32" tyres just as soon as these ones wear out, currently sitting at 6mm tread.
