ORE Canterbury Xmas BBQ Day Ideas
I'm thinking an area we could sit down have bbq few brews and those that wish to have a play can. Maybe down the waimak in one of those picnic areas or down the beach somewhere or up a river. Must be suitable for families etc.
Also dates. Early december, late december (usually lots of other functions on then), late november.
Start throwing some ideas

How about after a few options are submitted we put the dates and venues to the poll.
I like the Waipara idea but considering I have only been there and up Worsleys my experience is limited.
Late November sounds like the best.

or you could start at amberly golf course and cross the waipara and head up to the rocks. good beach to go swimming at etc.
We'd be keen for this or Matt4U idea works also.. :drunken:

I heard this area is meant to be really good for a bbq, nice and sheltered not exposed like the horse shoe. We could have a trip down the waipra late morning have a small play at the horse shoe then head up the beach and have bbq early afternoon.
How does first weekend of december work for everyone? 4th or 5th december?

Isn't the first weekend in December 2006 the 2nd and 3rd?
I like the idea you are proposing and would be keen for the Sunday.

OK guys and gals, time to put the acid on as work functions start to pop up.
Can we have some expert input from someone who has done a few trips in the past ( my 2 so far doesn’t really cut it) who can come up with a venue that suits all levels of experience and vehicle, as well as a nice spot for the BBQ and an onsite if not very nearby camping area.
The camping area is a good idea but not essential I think, although it would be good to have somewhere for those who need to be rolled there after to many fanta's, or just for those who want to make a weekend of it.
If we can come up with a venue we are half way there, dates can be set after as you can't please all of the people all of the time.
Seeing as how we are the home of 4wdng lets be the first of the three threads going re this idea, and set it in concrete by leading the way into the silly season.

I'm thinking that the Wairarapa is quite a long way for alot of people to drive home (after a few fantas). How about the Mac or there are a few spots down the Selwyn that make a good area to picnic or cricket???????
I'm keen for Sunday Dec 3rd. Too much Family commitments most Saturdays.

I think either the Ashley or the Selwyn
The Selwyn is a bit soft for playing but lots of room for a BBQ and not many people around, water not too deep if there is kids about.
Ashley has more people about and deeper water but is not as soft in the gravel.
either one would be cool with me

same

Between the main RD bridge and the Rangiora bridge theres a good swiming hole for any kids (BIG OR SMALL) that might be coming, thats if its still there ???
If your talking bout the swimming hole on the southside right next to the rangiora bridge then I think it is gone/flooded out, last time I saw it was looking non-existent
