Reducing final drive for larger tyres

Post by big-b »

Hi there, Was wondering if anyone knows anything about reducing the final drive in your gear box instead of changing the gear and pinion in your diffs for larger tyres. I have a gq safari. Iv heard its just a matter of pulling the rear case off the transfer and replacing some gears? Any light on this would be much appreciated. Also where to get parts or get it done? im in Auckland. cheers

You can fit lower gearing to the transfer case but it will only change low range. Diff gears would be better because they will affect high range as weel.

I have seen those reduction gears but they only reduce the low range gears. Looks like the crown and pinion in my diffs is the only way to go then for over all reduction

you can get overdrive/underdrive units (makes it a 10 speed 8) ) but that would only work in 2wd unless you can fit one between gearbox and transfer box.
