2l-t Engine problems

Hi Guys and Girls I'm new to the forum and was wondering if you could give me some advice or share your knowledge.

I have a 1989 Toyota Hilux Surf SSR Limited. 2l-t Chassis number starts with Ln-130.

Basically I cant get it to start. About 2 months ago the diesel pump started leaking so me and dad had a go at re-furbing it; we didnt do a very good job and it wouldn't start. Went to a parts dealer and got a second hand one, put it on and hooked it up. Went sweet for 3-4 days then nothing. Diesel is getting to the injectors but nothing happens. The little primer on the diesel filter no longer goes solid after you pump it. We have tried gravity feeding the diesel pump, clearing the valve on top of the fuel tank.

I cannot seem to get the check engine light up on the dash. when I attach my multimeter to the diagnosis box it reads at 11v pretty steadily when contected to the vf and e1 terminals.

Hopefully you can offer some suggestions.
Thanks
Karl

check you have voltage going to the pump.

if primer is soft check fuel is coming out of the injection pump return. you may have an air leak and its air locked the pump and the primer has failed.
an electric fuel pump is handy for this.

when you go to start it hold the intake butterfly open.

check your glows are working. tired old motors need all the help they can get to start.

Seems to have been a combination of an air lock and a tired motor.

Thanks for the tips Tweake
