rms replacement question

Post by jonossiksilvia »

hi guys.

Just replaced the rear main seal on the 1uz. now the old seal that was in there was 10mm thick. that part number has been superseded by a new seal which is only 8.5mm thick. trouble im having is after 4 attempts of trying to get the seal to seat in the old position it keeps sliding back the extra 1.5mm to the lip on the seal holder so the sealing part is now back further.

Will this be a problem?

old seal:

Whats your thoughts? i just dont wanna pull the box out again

Cheers

It will be fine, if anything it will be better like that because the new seal is running on a fresh surface (there would be a mark on the crank where the old seal was running).

Yup. we used to try to get new seals to sit on a new spot due to the above reason. If all else is equal (an lubed on install) it will be fine for yonks.
