1kz Cracked Head

Hi

Ive cracked the head on my 1kz (71 series Prado), ive been reading a lot about rebuilding the heads and am wondering what parts generally need to be replaced (eg valves, spacers, valve guides, springs etc? I got a quote from Toyota today for all the pieces and it was a lot!!!

When I search on here people mention new genuine heads for $800 to $900ish, the price Toyota gave me though was $1364 plus GST on top of that. Are these genuine Toyota heads available some where other than at a dealer?

Thanks in advance

I understand that you can get chinese made 1kz heads.
Consider contacting Customworks in Hutt Valley, Welly, as they do quite a bit of toyota diesel stuff. They can supply a new toyota head ready to bolt on for $1900 plus exchange(send them your cracked one). includes water pump and head bolts and head gasket etc.
I can't vouch for them personally, but they currently have 100% positive feedback on trade me.

Thanks, I had missed that one on TM, Hard to say wether or not they are truly genuine without buying from Toyota.
I live in upper Hutt so may go down to Custom Works if I get a chance. They defiantly seem a lot cheaper than buying just the parts from Toyota

I have a Spanish made amc head on my 1kz as well. Apparently they are one of the best aftermarket head manufacturers on the market. STA parts is the place to go for them.

1kz heads from toyota went up about a year ago trade on them used to be 1000 now up around 1200 price them with head gasket and full gasket sets (cheaper than a head set) aswel usually a good price, dont buy the union through them and save yourself a 20. another option would be buying this off me

cheers for the offer Leigh but id prefer to get a new one just to be safe, was the surf intercooled? id quite like to fit a factory intercooler whilst ive got it all apart if its not to much work.
Had my belt and water pump done 40k km ago so it should be right for a bit longer I hope. Will inspect it for wear when I pull it all apart though.

to be honest if you have the money and i believe if you go to bnt hornby and say you are from ORE you get trade. A new belt is about $35 so not really worth risking.

Had a few mates buy reconditioned heads with all OEM parts and head gasket kit supplied from this dude on trademe: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 846122.htm

They say its on a service exchange so you give him your head and he swaps over all your exhaust studs, seats valves, replaces stem seals, the works. One for a prado was $1600, one for a B1600 was $1000 and another for a L200 was $1300 so all in that sort of range and saves you a shit load of work re-lapping valves and all that crap.
