Holden v6 - overfuelling after conversion

Hi, I have just got the v6 wired up into the rugger but it runs like a sack of sh**. Black smoke and farting and popping away, once you give it a rev it sounds better than at idle.
Motor - VN 1990 series 1, motor sat for a couple of years in the holden before conversion.It didnt want to start so swapped injectors of a series 2 motor (91 VN), and away it went but like crap. massive overfuelling, black plugs after running. are these injectors the same?
Checked all the earths and wiring and its identical to my mates that runs mint.
tripple checked wiring and the couple of remaining fuses to no joy.
My mate reckons swapping the manifold off the series 2 vn as thats the only difference between our trucks.
Stripped loom back to a few wires, have searched the net but can only find info around sensors, appears a couple of people had the same issue but never posted their fix.
any ideas appreciated.

I had the same issue with with 304. Sounds really obvious, but try changing the spark plugs for a hotter one.
I assume you are using the factory ecu and it is well earthed and all works in your mates truck, therefore it will work in yours.
I put on new manifolds, fuel reg, injectors etc and it was changing the plugs that fixed it.

are you running factory MAP sensor or air flow meter ?and factory O2 sensors?

yep, all factory sensors used. Had a complete car it came out of so all the sensors came out with the motor, im not convinced its a sensor as we had my mates running next to mine and unpluged his map sensor and oxy and didnt alter it too much. im going to try new plugs and then start to look for another hi-pressure pump. Maybe my pumps playing up, dumping too much pressure through but i assumed the computer would stop excess flo?

yea man put a set of hotter plugs in it , its a good start point

yeah plugs should be light-mid grey, have you got a factory com dash in it?
or retained the service loop as I have the fault codes on my comp
and they're pretty accurate I've deciphered a few burnout car mysteries now

As above first and easiest step is to check for codes. Unplug the ecu to clear existing soft codes then run it again and check for fault codes. Clear the codes and repeat.
If there are no codes then its time to look at things like plugs, fuel pressure etc.
Common for o2 and temp and AFM to not work or play up and cause over fuelling.
Shooting blind without checking for codes.

Yep, You only have 6 of them, might cost you $30
It is pretty easy to set up a fault light to read the codes, Check the interweb (Google is your friend)
