Your Last Chance to Save Our Pistol Grips
Your Last Chance to Save Our Pistol Grips
You can now make a last minute submission on http://saveourpistolgrips.com/ to maybe save our pistol grips for A-Cat firearms.
The website will send the submission (below) to the following people:
Anne Tolley (Minister of Police)
Judith Collins (Minister of Justice)
Peter Dunne (United Future)
Richard Prosser (New Zealand First)
Kris Faafoi (Labour Police Spokesperson)
Michael Dowling (COLFO)
You can edit the message before sending.
The only way this will succeed is if everyone gets behind it. The website will be promoted on every forum and across facebook.
If anyone has pictures we can use of pistol grip semi autos it would be much appreciated.
The editable submission below:
BAD LAW MAKING GOOD CITIZENS CRIMINALS.
On December 11th 2013, the Arms Ammendment Act 2012 will come into force unwittingly turning thousands of sports people into criminals. These sports people will be punished for doing nothing more than purchasing and enjoying the use of a modern firearm fitted with a pistol grip. The pistol grip is a natural evolution in the safety and performance features of our firearms.
I AM STONGLY OPPOSED to the consequences of this poorly thought out ammendment and the affects it will have on my community. Government and Police are driving an increasingly larger wedge between themselves and those that enjoy the exhilaration of hunting and the personal satisfaction of shooting in the safe manner that we are licenced for.
FORTUNATELY THERE IS A SOLUTION FOR ALL INVOLVED.
My solution is to simply keep the legal definition of an MSSA pistol grip exactly as it stands under current law. Law abiding citizens can then continue to enjoy their chosen sport. This solution would be seen by thousands of licenced Kiwi firearm owners as going a long way toward helping mend the increasing rift between Government, Police and my community.
I urge you to participate in ensuring that the legal definition of a MSSA pistol grip does not change.

Re: Your Last Chance to Save Our Pistol Grips
I added the following to my submission:
What you are doing only affects the law abiding, not the criminal elements. It is the same as trying to reduce drunk driving by making it harder for sober drivers to own cars. Pistol grips are part of the evolution of firearms just as a Ferrari or Bugatti Veyron is part of the evolution of the motor vehicle. They look very different to the Model T Ford of the 1920s or the Fords and Chevs of the 50s or 60s, but they all have the same basic design concepts (4 wheels and an engine) and intended use (personal transport). Motor vehicles kill more NZers every year than firearms with pistol grips, yet the sentence for killing with a car is far less than with a firearm. Does this mean that a human life is less valued when ended by a motor vehicle?
It is the bullet fired by a criminal that kills, not the pistol grip or the flash eliminator. It is the criminal using the firearm in the commission of a crime that kills, wounds, threatens the innocent, not the law abiding firearm owner on the range or in the field or at the gun club. Punish the guilty not the innocent.
Sadly here in New Zealand we tend to take the easiest way possible to combat criminals, it is easier to ban something that thousands of people use and enjoy safely, we lock up our parks and beaches because a minority abuse them. We restrict where and when we can drink alcohol because some people cannot control themselves.
STOP RESTRICTING ME BECAUSE OF THE CRIMINAL ACTIONS OF OTHERS.

Dear Mr Hamilton
Thank you for your message about pistol grips and the Arms Amendment Act.
This clearly seems to be an unintended consequence of last year's law change, and I can see the adverse impact it will have on recreational hunters and shooters.
I will therefore be pleased to lobby the Ministers of Police and Justice for some changes, and I thank you for raising the issue with me.
Kind regards

Last count was 1320 submissions made and 7920 emails sent.
Keep it going guys
It isn't stopping here with pistol grips either. The next lot in the firing line is large calibers and shottys, from the rumours going around the traps.
Long range and practical shooters should be aware of this.

Re: Your Last Chance to Save Our Pistol Grips
done mine and taken it into the local hunting shops and they hadn't heard anything about it.
the disapointing thing looking at some of the hunting and shooting forums is that some of the people who dont have a semi with a pistol grip dont care, i think everyone should send a submission in!!!!

If you go to the facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/saveourpistolg ... ion=stream), you can see the number of stores that are getting behind the submission.
But the more the better.
I find it amazing also how some think this issue isn't going to affect them. This has huge implications as to what the Police are going to be able to class a MSSA.
So the more shooters that get behind the submission, hopefully the outcome will be positive for all.
