80 series cruiser tyre size

Post by defmonbart »

Hi,
This is my first time posting on here,
I have a 1991 vx landcruiser and am looking at new tyres. Currently i have 31x10.5x15 mud tyres on 10inch rims and standard body height i believe. Due to the size of the tyre my diffs keep getting hung up when im in deep ruts. Im looking at some 35x11.5x15 silverstone extremes and was wondering if they are a preferable tyre choice? On trademe they are $405 per tyre and i believe that is quite a bit cheaper than the simex extreme trekkers. Can anyone confirm this and even know how they compare against each other?
Also what sort of lift should i be looking at?

any input would be appreciated.

Ive got 35x11.5x16 silverstones on my 80,i would recommend a 3inch suspension lift as bear minimum,5-6 inch if you can stretch your budget.
It will probably be alrite with 3inch lift but its when you have to hit something with a bit of pace is when damage will be done(tyres/guards/flares)
Ive got 5 inch lift and at full flex it clears everything, problem i had is castor correction plates brought my steering arm real close to radius arm,so i ended up buying superflex radius arms which took my suspension budget over the top  .

Cheers 4 the reply, thats good 2 know, Im looking for a 4inch lift and will go higher on a body lift if I need 2, looking on trademe theres a few kits but none seem to be complete, from what ive gathered I will need adjustable panhard rods, the shocks and springs, adjustable rear torsion bars and the castor correction bushes. Dose that sound about right??

Hey im no expert, but these are things i think you need not mentioned.
extended brake lines, uprated steering damper, rear brake propotion bracket.
8inch rims will give you extra clearance when your wheels are tucked up.
Not sure on the adjustable rear torsion bars?Im
not using them but anything adjustable is great to get things back in line.

Gidday,

The brake proportioning valve adjusts the amount of braking pressure applied to the rear wheels, which varies depending on the load that is being carried.... The more weight in the back, the more force applied. By lifting the truck, your tricking it into thinking there is no load at all times, and applies very little force to the rear brakes - they are adjustable (google search will tell you how to adjust).... The bracket just realigns it to sit back where it should.

I have a 6 inch lift in mine, and have just adjusted it as far as it would safely go, and never had any issues.
