new tyres

Post by defmonbart »

Hi,
This is my first time posting on here,
I have a 1991 vx landcruiser and am looking at new tyres. Currently i have 31x10.5x15 mud tyres on 10inch rims and standard body height i believe. Due to the size of the tyre my diffs keep getting hung up when im in deep ruts. Im looking at some 35x11.5x15 silverstone extremes and was wondering if they are a preferable tyre choice? On trademe they are $405 per tyre and i believe that is quite a bit cheaper than the simex extreme trekkers. Can anyone confirm this and even know how they compare against each other?
Also what sort of lift should i be looking at?

any input would be appreciated.

hey mate
do a search on here its all been covered on here before and theres alot of good advice.

if you're looking at the tyres for a daily truck then id advise against buying simexs/silverstones and if you do a good search youll see why. probably better to have them as a weekend set.

welcome to the forum.

cheers

Mate and I just brought 8 35x11.5x15 silverstone extremes.
We looked around, best price is 4wdbits at $375. Tyres online about $1 cheaper but freight pushes it up. Brought the heavy duty tubes too.

from what i understand, a 4" lift is the go to run 35" tires on the vx cruiser. And i think that the silverstone 35"s are a true 35", not 34.x for example.

Also a point to look out for is how much driving do you do to get to your 4x4 area, after having Simex's as a daily driver tyre I wouldnt do it again. Pig on the road would be a complement. I have heard it before and tryed it myself with "weekend" tyres and to be honest ya do it a few times and get sick of changing them. My advise would be get a good set of MT tyres and dont bother changing. You will find you will get about 30-40 thousand k's out of them and your in for another set as well as there pretty soft and there isnt much rubber on the road.

Anyway its your money but just be careful you dont comprimise your on road too much as its where most people do 90% of the Km's.

We can't do 35 inch Silverstones at $374 now, buy them from Tyreshoponline while they have them at that price.

There is a 4 digit number under the X-treme part of the label on the tyres.
Number will be like 2313 meaning manufactured week 23 of 2013.
New size has been manufactured since Feb 2012, I doubt any new tyres will be the old size.
