has anyone tried the rislone compression and ring repair additive. seen it at repco today. had a quick read and it states that it will raise compression, increase fuel economy and reduce blow by aswell as blue smoke from exhaust. uses polymers to fill in any scatches etc around rings and pistons restoring the compression. any thoughts on it.

I use it in my shitbox L200 (360Km) It seems to work ok, using less oil and making less smoke, not sure about the compression but at 360k it won't run as new.

yeah i know that. no such thing as a mechanic in a can. put some in today to see if there is any change and it does run quieter and have better oil pressure but time will tell.

a good dose of brake fluid decokes a diesel quite well.
problems are only a problem if you not willing to learn how to find solutions

what down the air intake, in the fuel or oil?some times when you pull the pistons out of an engine burning oil, the rings are jammed stuck with carbon in the ring gaps, they need to be springy to work properly . I wonder if a long run/thrashing and some kind of "treatment" could loosen them back up? Having said that i have seen plenty of petrol engines take the thrashing of a lifetime and it didnt stop them burning oil ha ha ha

A good thrashing can do wonders esp. in a vehicle that gets nursed everywhere.
A million years ago when I was on the tools a hard run after a service made a huge difference to a lot of vehicles - diesel or petrol.
Taxis and Mum cars benefited the most.
You would notice a smoother idle and better pick up after one thrash.
Sounds rough but new plugs and air filters dont help if the ports are clogged with shit. And who wants to pay to pull the head for a clean??

My dad used to tell me about pulling down engines to de coke them, its amazing the combination of better oils, better metalurgy has done to improve reliability of the combustion engine..and yet its still basically the same thing it was 100 years ago.
As my old tech tutor warren udy used to say, giving a car an oil change is like giving it a birthday. RIP but remembered fondly by generations of apprentices.
