divorced to married boxswap

Post by slidenyo »

have here a married ed30 mq patrol box and a divorced l28 box.
need to marry the transfer case to the l28 box as the input shaft lengths are a good 50mm different.
anyone had experience with this?
look to be the same box I suppose when I pull the transfer case cover off it'll indicate on whether the shaft is one piece or has a coupler to hook into the transfer case.

that site has nothing for an mq I can find,
but I had a lash at it so heres a reference for anyone else.
turns out the ed30 bell housing box with the transfer case is the hd version, the l28 divorced case unit is not.
from all accounts the case is the same and they look the same but the gear set shafts are bigger for the hd unit.
no problem so the l28 spigot shaft which is longer to account for the longer bell housing requires the gearset end bearing surface to be bored and re hardened.
no big job just a bit of time and money and I get a hd box behind my ld28 for the effort.

bare box very simple disassembly 10,12,14mm sockets and plyers to remove clutch fork retainer clips

stubby ed30 spigot shaft nextdoor to the l28 one

larger arbor gearset runs the bigger bearing could run a brass bush at a stretch as it does have an oil supply I guess.
