Lets hope we get some action from RDC to remove the locked gates and deep trenches placed across these public roads by a forestry co and reclaim them for legal access by the public of NZ.

I have sent mine to RDC in support of the removal of all obstructions on the unformed legal roads in question. All these roads do provide access to DOC land that at present is difficult to get to.

Auckland 4WD Club have lodged a submission for retaining the roads and having them clear of obstructions. We understand that the Walking Access Commission have also submitted along those lines.

Hi Guys
PF Olsen won't dear make the their hole on Endean any bigger as it is already encroaching into the public land. Part of the sale agreement of Endean forest with Chinese government requires public access to the forest.
The council is happy for people use Endean road but won't fix the holes so it is up to the user to get this road open again
Heading up on sunday to repair a few pot hole if any one keen to give me a hand

All of the roads in question are infact FORMED legal roads by definition.
They are formed such that upon removal of the illegal obstructions, traffic can once again move through the road.
An unformed legal road has no "form", for example you wouldn't readily recognize it as a road. All of the above roads are definitely formed, their route easily defined and followed by their potential users.

Hi guys and gals
Made some good progress repairing endean road and making sure it on pubilc access way. Hand digging is pretty easy but a tea spoon would make things a bit quicker or some body with access for to lowloader to move a small bulldozer a couple km would help
Planning having another dig-a-thon in two weeks. Every body welcome flick me a message if you want get this track open
Little article from local Rotorua paper

Sandman, Sent you a PM confirming i'd be keen to help where I can. Local to Rotorua, but no special digging equipment, just some arms and legs and a shovel.
Grant.

Nah still needs some work at the big hole the heavy rain washed away some of the recent repairs and there are two smaller trenches further on that need attention.

Whoops meant to post in leaving trash / cutting fences thread.
Red Rocks Wellington
Bowl Area, Went out on Xmas day taking cousins down from hamilton and found probably a slabs worth of shotgun hulls lying all over the place and smashed /shot up glass lying all over the place.
Bloody disgusting seeing this, this is how you get places gated off and spoil it for everyone else.
Pick up your bloody hulls and stop being a lazy prick.
If anyone knows more or catches anyone leaving a mess like this I'd encourage photos and a complaint to the local police station+ DOC.

It's amazing how the law makes it easy for people/company's to do this and act as legal owners or public roads and the council just talk bout it until everyone gets sick of trying and give up. I say get a dump truck cut the gate and open it up. I know of places that are now locked but from pig hunters and potchers not anyone with land ownership or business ivestments in the area. There is a beach in taranaki that is as far as council and. Police have said is illegally block with boulders yet nothing has been done for nearly 10 years . It doesnt even go thro any other land . There has been afew attempts to move them but gets pretty ugly . Bullying and harrassment and doing what ever u want basically . Laws need to be looked at and better definition of public and private roading . At the moment if u want u can just claim roading as u please it seems

Endean road is open.
The new Rotorua Mayor and Dave Donaldson and help from a few of my other friend have manage to get the road open
Be warned their is a narrow bit that crossed over a massive pit dug by PF Olsen and 2x other holes that need some more work to get some less capable wagon across
Check out my photos on google earth to get a ideal of what the track looks like
http://www.panoramio.com/photo/105124081 The rock needs a few whacks with a slegde hammer and cold chisel or a bit more dirt form the bank above will help
The narrow bit has changed abit since this video was taken and sukuzi and quad, horse have no problems

Thank you Sandman for your efforts on this road. It shows that persistence can work and as you suggest, it is now up to users to look after it so there is no future excuse to close it.
Well done!
If people know of public access problems, they can contact Public Access NZ
www.panz.kiwi.nz through me, or talk with the Walking Access Commission, who are also concerned about access of public roads by vehicles.

Thanks Peter, their is still one more nut in the basket to crack which is Great West road. I am have a meeting with Rotorua Mayor and Deputy Mayor and CEO and the meeting agenda is
"The discussion/meeting is about public concerns around access to legal roads and the implementation of Council guidelines."
which my response was
"I think this meeting should address why the council is not enforcing the legal requirements of the local body act and fencing act on Great west road
And what the council is doing to rectify the situation in a timely and cost effective way.
I have very little interest in disscussing RDC guide lines which seem to be ingorned or wildy misinterpreted by council staff."
It is an up hill battle and any advise would be appreciated.
