I have a 2wd ute, couldnt quite afford the 4wd but its got LSD and a shit pile of ground clearance. Im wanting to drive on the beach for surf casting, do you think it will do the job or just get stuck all the time.

Anyone got experience doing this sort thing in 2wd, maybe with the right tyre choice it could work

15 inch rims with a 10 inch wide tyre atleast. with an not so aggressive A/T tread. so it wont dig or sink into the sand.

And what ever you do don't let off the gas from the time you leave the carpark till the time you get on hard pack sand.

Plenty of 2WD buggy's running on beaches all round the country. Sands all about power to weight, and flotation. As crash said - widest tyres you can fit, road patterns are fine or AT, pick the right gear and keep the jandle down.

But if you get stuck your in trouble.

X2 I would be very careful about taking a 2wd on the beach, if possible keep above the high tide line so at least if it all turns to custard your truck won't get drowned.

Low tyre pressures & keep weight to absolute minimum. she'll be right.

probably keep a case of beer in the back too.....for when I ask for a tow from a passing 4wd!!

Might be wise to attach a rated tow hook or two for when you need that tow.

Definitely do able. Someone said stay above the high tide mark but its the wet sand thats rock hard. Helps if you know the beach. Personally I wouldnt because temptation would get the beter of me and where I go its too remote to risk getting stuck.

it depends on the coarseness of the sand. the more coarse the less packed it is when wet. like at red rocks down here some parts the wet sand is no better than the dry stuff. also when water washes into your wheel you get that sink like when you stand in water and the waves wash around your feel.
An exhaust jack is a simple effective way of unstucking yourself too.

Hmmm, there are lots of sets of standards wheels and tyres on trademe, with a bit of kiwi injun oo ity i could probably get a dual wheel set up going at the back to keep it from sinking in, then a winch, a spade and an old tyre outa do the trick.
