3" Lift Kit Problems

Post by coastal_offroader »

Hi Guys

Is there anyone who has installed one of the 3" FTS lift kits on to an Escudo?

I have just installed mine and have a couple of problems:

1 - There is a significant amount of positive camber on the front wheels, which I have reduced using the slotted holes in the tope of the struts together with some camber adjustment bolts, however, I still cannot get enough adjustment from these to correct it.

2 - There is noise in the rear drive line when powering on and off. (only happens when engine speed = driveshaft speed, i.e. when putting on the accelerator of letting off the accelerator). I am assuming it is caused by the increased driveshaft angle?

I have installed the 10mm spacer that came with the kit.

I have tried jacking the rear wheels off the ground and the noise gets a lot worse with the increased driveshaft angle when the suspension fully extended. I have tried loading up the rear of the Suzuki and the noise gets better as the angle reduces.

If there's anyone who can help me, would really appreciate it :D

I can take photos of anything if it helps.

extend the rear lower arms 16mm or drop the back of the gearbox 12mm , that will give you a vast improvment , fts make extended rear lower arms , however if its still not 100 percent have a dual cardon rear drive shaft made (how the front ones in surfs are , being a 3" lift the arms and gearbox spacers should help considerably ,
Cheers ,

Could also be the UJ's, if they are worn the noise/vibration will get worse on an increased angle. The camber situation is because you have a 3" lift with the standard suspension arms, as the arm is pushed down the outside end becomes closer to the centre of the vehicle which will cause excessive camber. The Calmini 3" kit includes longer lower arms to correct this, not sure if you can buy them seperate to the kit though.

Thanks for your ideas, I'll see what I can come with. I will post some photos of the Suzuki once I've made some progress!

Calmini don't sell the arms separate.

4xfourart do, but they are pricey.

Someone should make a bracket to space the hub out from the control arm.

If you do the Hagen mod it will extend the arms out.

Don't know much about about zuk's but the principle might be the same....what about shimming out the top A arm at the chassi rail and using longer shocks or are these things monocoque construction?

Or can you purchase elliptical bushes to move the pivot point outwards/
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

Yes they are. The Hagen mod does the same thing to a larger extent.

No top a arm on vits.
