Rear Disk Brakes on a TJ Wrangler

Post by 00falcon »

Guys,

i have a cost effective opportunity to convert my (piece of ****) drum brakes to disks.

Essentially, BA Falcon Rear Disk Brakes are all but bolt on replacements for the stock drums.

The only thing i am not comfortable with is...

The instructions are quite detailed, and it all looks fairly straight forward, but the proviso is that you cant really use the stock Jeep rims...

OK, i do have muds, on aftermarket steelies, with the required off-set.
but i also have a set of Mags that came from my previous Terrano... these are essentially my road tires...

As professional & scientific as my measurements are, there seams to be about 5mm clearance (at the closest points between the Caliper and the wheel...

How close can the caliper be to the wheel before one should be concerned...?

I really want to lose my drums as they are really a pain after i go and sit her knee deep in mud... which is nearly every time i drive her...

Push come to shove, i can invest in a set of wheel spaces to match the offset of my steelies...

Yous thoughts..?

we assembled the brakes, and lined it up as best we could by eye sight...

The instructions i am following

My Budget alignment... :)

The gaps alright for roadies. My only concern would be if you piced up a stone and it takes the bleed nipple out

I appreciate you got all the falcon bits but i have seen lots of links on the Grand Cherokee conversions to XJ so would be similar to a TJ i assume and these mod in well from the looks of the forums with some tight clearances but not that tight.

I think info suggests that after market rims with bigger offset might help and most use sixteen inch rims to solve issue but as always try to do a simple mod and it blows right out if you let it!

Easiest way is to use TJ Rubicon parts from 2004 onwards. Everything stays factory/OEM.

Parts can be had from dealers out of US or locally. Rockauto is always a good source.

Keep in mind that some KJ parts and ZJ parys are a good fit too (same part numbers as TJ)

I can list the parts if anyone is interested.

Yeti...

What brakes are thos...?
How did it affect your Brake BIAS...
Did you need to do anything with with your proportioning valve.

You say 15's...
i assume 15's with a decent off-set...?

Did you change your wheel studs to longer ones...?

EDIT: Sorry Yeti... just noticed... but they are front brakes...
