Saf Guard trimming to fit 35's?

Some advice would be appreciated on how much I should trim the guards back by. Swb 88 saf, 40mm body lift with 1-2 inch sus lift. Got new 35x11.5 silverstones on 15x8 rims (-19offset), they are at 40psi in photo. Just fitted and i articulated the suspension to check on clearances. Was still about 30mm off rear bumpstop in photos, inner guards good all round, by the looks
But the question is how much? - gut feel says about 25mm. i'll get a panel beater to do it as i want a nice finish, some bits are plastic - is that a prob?. Ive drawn some red lines which i think would be about right.

I have a set of these and they hep get the front tyre off the back of the guard so you don't have to take as much off

I did minor trimming in the end. Has been given a good workout since then at winch chall and woodhill. Have specifically looked & there is no guard rub at all on either internal or external. Ive been told that my Silverstones which are new, are taller than earlier ones by about 40mm - ie they are real 35's.Hence in the end: a 40mm body lift, with a mild susp lift of 1-2 inches, minor guard trim,19mm offset rims- seems to fit these 35's no problem at all.

To cut guards yourself just make a vertical cut with a grinder or tin snips every 5 - 10 cm around your guards up to the depth you wish to trim them back by. Then just fold guard back and put some of the flexible type flares over top, easier to do with a flat guard than a flared one like on a GQ Safari - but should be easy enough to gain around 2-3" of clearance (i,e enough to run a 35" tyre) and it is much cheaper and safer than suspension or body lift. Remember to do something to stop the cut metal from rusting - a tube of silicon or a can of rust kill paint will do the trick. Rear quarter panel chop like crazydiver has done in picture is a good move too as that panel is quite prone to dents (I cut mine off partly because they were so dented).

Rear quarter chop. Thats picture one i guess. I am definately planning on removing these and putting a solid bar under there as that area is taking a beating!! Is there any problems for the WOF man with cutting them???

Not a WOF inspector so don't quote me - but as long as you cut lower than the body mount it should be fine. They are however more fussy with the sills under your doors so don't take the grinder to them to improve your clearance.
