Looking at this on saturday and wonder what to look out for when looking to buy one of these, aside from the obvious os proof of rebuild

Dam that's tidy. Make sure you get there and do a cold start and let it idle for a bit to see if it misses once the after glow has stoped. It has the twin batteries so good with glowing and really cold mornings.

I have had a couple and 1 diesel one it was excellent and good on fuel. Mine was auto and had a LSD in the back.

It looks like its had some work done to it so just make sure it makes the right noises and drives like it should.

Apart from that just do the normal checks as they are pretty strong trucks.

Oil pressure switch can leak, prick of a place to get to. RHS of block behind the turbo if my memory is correct. $14 from BNT and an hour to replace it.

Half an hour the first time, it diminishes after that down to nil once married.

Its normally about 15-20 sec after start up.

Some have aftermarket ones fitted and they can be from 10sec to 2min +.

Haha yip that's true not even married a year and I have to use a manual switch just to get Any glow

out of 3 that I looked at yesterday this was the best the other two were diesel tho

Photos seldom do a vehicle justice. Fly down to look if need be at cars I reckon.
Its saved me buying a sweet looking dog before.

I've just recently bought a 1998 lwb 2.8 diesel auto has rear diff lock with 295000k on it. has had new head & diesel pump done. Also near new tyres. paid $4500.

I've had to replace the water pump and glow plugs since buying it. Im really happy with it

Personally I'd far rather have an untidy truck with good mechanicals than the other way around.

Check the running costs on the petrol ones - they're not particularly economical...

My Dad had a 2.8TD for years (He actually had a couple) and raved about them. His last one was still going strong at well over 350,000km when he upgraded to a Challenger with the same motor but around 200,000 less km's.

The only thing I really recall him saying was the head gave some trouble after it blew a heater hose and boiled.

Also, unscrew the oil filler and see if it paints your face black like the last one I test drove did It just blasted filthy black oil all over me... man was I impressed. Needless to say, I bought a Land Rover instead
