Maybe they got a bad batch

Re: Foa coilovers
Yes we had a couple of issues but you must take into account that there was only 35l of fuel put through the truck in total (including dyno time) before the race.
So we were extremely under prepared and there was no shock tuning done. The rear was well under valved and under sprung which caused a few problems but that wasn't really shock problem.
There was a problem with one of the canisters but that was an old model and a known problem that has been solved in the current stuff for sale. The seals on the other side are leaking but then this shock was used for mocking up purposes so has sat in my workshop for 3 years with no gas pressure and this can cause the seals to fail.
The main problem we had was the lock ring for the slider (between the two springs) and that is being dealt with. No one is sure what the cause of the problem was but we'll know shortly.
Considering we did the 3rd fastest lap for a class 6 truck in a completely untested truck I wouldn't be too quick to come to a bad conclusion about the shocks. This lap was on Sunday morning after the track had broken up as well. Picture 12" deep corrogations now drive over them at 80 to 100 km! I'd almost gaurantee that what we did to them last weekend is more than almost anyone will do to them in an entire lifetime.
I'm not replacing them just fixing the problems that came up during the toughest race in NZ. (I have the money and the OK from the finance department to do this as well)
These shocks got put onto a custom built race car, not tested and then driven extremely hard. (and I'm pleased to say nothing I built or designed had any problems!!) They were paid for and we didn't get sponsored anything to do with them so if they aren't up to scratch I have nothing stopping me say what I think.
So yes we've had some issues and above are the facts of those issues. I'll post back to keep you informed of our progress and what we find.

Re: Foa coilovers
Keep me in the loop as they are well priced.hope it goes well for u .are u coming down for the manukau winch comp
Re: Foa coilovers
Over all I've been happy with the performance of my 12 inch FOA's on the front of my Navara. The problems I've had are more than likely generic to all duel sprung coilovers, imho.
The centre slider that 'joins' the two springs wears (grit/mud etc) and becomes sloppy on the shock. This isn't a big deal in itself, but the spring then rubs on the 'stop' for this slider, wear it out. I'm due to make a replacement the 2nd time. I've been thinking of putting a bellow type tube over the whole spring length to keep most of the shit out.
The spherical (sp?) ball shock mounts are due for replacement as worn out, but I'm not a fan of "rod end" style joints for putting up with grit/mud etc. (I have seen rubber boots for these on after market A arms for cars, but can't find where to get just the boots)
Oh, there easy enough to revalve and service yourself
All this bearing in mind that I've done a fare amount of km's on them over the last few years.

If you break it... build it stronger.

Not sure yet. Have to get the winch finished and a few other things sorted before ready for WC. Taupo showed us a few things that need to be changed. More about serviceability than anything and getting a few more miles on it to test would be good as well.

Haven't used mine yet but I can at least tell you that the back up and service so far has been great.

When i was in Las Vegas last year i managed to get to the FOA factory, they were in the process of settling into the new building after a fire, so place was a tad of a mess, But they made nice gear and had good equipment, very knowledgeable and helpful, i was after a shim kit for a suzuki i had put coilovers on, they put a shim kit together for me while they gave me the factory tour, and then gave me the kit with no charge, nice guys, they also showed me how they make the external valved shocks, cool stuff
Cheers
Pedro
Re: Foa coilovers
Klem, Keri, Dan and us all ran FOA shocks in trucks. We were second in class 6 and 19th overall with our FOA shocks.
