am about to bolt to a qd32 intake manifold to my wd21 but noticed the stock manifold had a probe/sensor in no 4 runner looks like a manifold pre heater. the qd32 does not have this so the what are the options. will it be a bustard to start on frosty mornings with out it ? how does the qd do it ?

Not manifold heater, resistor for afterglow and uses the air to help cool it. When they are gunked up with black shyt due to EGR they never seem to overheat. May have to disable the afterglow relay and then you can throw it all in the bin. Will start no problems but may smoke and run a little rough for a while afterwards. Nothing a bit of hand throttle can't overcome.
Cheers,

I was just about to ask this very question as im about to fit an intake manifold from a 97 mistral (for a factory top mount intercooler) and aslo doesn't have this connection.
How would you go about disabling this?

mine had a plug on it, siting on the manifold, I unplugged it to see what the starting would be like. and no difference at all. but am yet to drive it.
I suspect that mine could be stuffed tho, I put a multi meter on the power wires going to it and got no reading from off, acc, glow, running. but im not a sparky and don't even know what it dose or how it works, so for me as it makes no difference. I am rapping it in tape and leaving it there.
sibainmud is the clever one on these questions.

It will only use afterglow when it needs it. There is a temp probe in the thermostat housing (1 of the 3) that tells the control box if and when to afterglow. All the info is in the TD27 engine manual coupled with the WD21 "bible".

What would be a good upgrade is installing the entire QD32 engine into the engine bay. but unless your TD27 is turbocharged there would be no significant changes to the flow characteristics of the inlet runners to create any noticeable gain.

Thanks for the feedback

. Is fitting a qd32 a big job or is it an easy swap over?

bolt up baby just use your td27 manual pump and wind the fuel up a squidge if the QD 32 has a ETI pump on it.
