Gen 2 V6 is quite possibly the best off road racing vehicle ever made, forged in the heat of the Paris Dakar Rally.
They are a true off road vehicle and the strongest off the shelf IFS. Not many people SAS them because with a factory locker the standard platform 'works'. 35s no problem.
The SWB ones seem a little choppy when climbing
Turbodiesels questionable longevity compared to Nissan diesels of the same era.
Super Select II very clever powertrain system but more moving parts therefore more maintenance items (center diff etc)

Hi Westy
Yeah 1991 onwards is the Gen II.
In my opinion the Gen I looks cooler. According to expeditionportal you can fit a lot of the later stronger Gen II running gear into the Gen I, which would make a pretty unique awesome off road vehicle.
I'm not sure on the lift questions, theres a guy round here called NJV6 whose one of the Pajero experts.

Hi Jimmy
Just spoke to you on the phone about the Pajero and then found your post here.
So firstly in answer to your question regarding the 3.0 and 3.5 engines.
Peppe is the last of the gen1 pajeros and was the first one to come out with the 3.0 in the SWB. Then the 3L was pretty much standard in the Gen2 when that came out, then a few years later on they introduced the 3.5L and then changed it to the GDI version.
However the 3L engines in the Gen1 and Gen 2 are slightly different. The Gen1 3L has less power but made more torque and produced it lower in the rev range, which is better for playing off road in my opinion.
Here are a couple of links you will want to have a look at
This is the build thread for Peppe, please just be aware that there is alot of poetic licence in this thread so take everything written with a grain of salt

But will give you an idea of what has been done and some of Peppe's adventures. Please be aware that if you buy Peppe there is an expectation that you will need to continue putting up Peppe's adventures on this thread.....
http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... 18&t=31094secondly here is a couple of videos of Peppe in the early days showing how the lockers work.
http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... 13&t=38210As mentioned on the phone i also have a PTO winch here and also a parts truck which you could be interested in if you are wanting to continue to add to Peppe's abilities off road.
cheers
Rick
