Does anyone know if it is legal to drive around with no doors.
I have heard that you dont need doors to get a wof.

But was wondering if there was any other laws the cops could use to ping you with a ticket if you are driving around with no doors.

And if you could provide a link if you have one to the law. Because I cannot find anything that states its either legal or illegal.

Im only asking cuz now its coming into summer i was thinking about pulling the doors of the wrangler at the beach when im over there on and off.

Cheers everyone.

issue #1 is if your rear view mirrors were affixed to the door they'd need to be mounted to the gaurds or something similar.

Issue #2 if the doors have Impact protection/ side intrusion bars in them to assist in protecting the occupants during an accident then it'd probably be a no no aswell.

On the other hand, I thought they wrangler had a barrell/pin type/style of hinge so you could lift the doors off.?

Thanks Crash bandicoot.

Yeah they are held on by two pins on each side. I just need to undo two nuts and wiggle the door off.

As for the mirrors. Apparently from what i have read. pree 1/1/2000 cars need... one right hand mirror OR one internal mirror.

And I have one internal mirror. So id have to think id be safe on that part.

As for the doors themselfs... Theres no side intrusion bars. Literally just a thin bit of sheet steel put onto a thin skeleton frame.

It got me wondering so i just rang my local WOF guy and asked... He has never had to deal with such an issue.

In saying that. he also said that he wouldn't think twice about issuing a WOF to a vehcile that was designed to have the doors easily removed such as jeep wranglers early land rovers etc that drove into his workshop with them not fitted.

There is a sticker on the inside of my TJ saying doors and top are for protection from the elements and do not provide structural support. Hence they are removable. So that would be my view, factory engineers know about structural elements than I do.

Took the doors and roof off for a blast on the weekend with the epic weather and pulled up next to two cop cars at the lights at the end of Old East Coast Rd. They didn't bat an eyelid. Ive got an iPhone holder to the right of the steering wheel and I put the wifes pocket mirror in there - worked a treat. Im guessing "no doors" is (much like anything) a case of you'll get stung if you're being a dick.

yeah had no issues with my wrangler (2002).

used a motorbike mirror through one of the door mount points with a long bolt - mirror done. Didn't work for shit but hey its there so legal.

also, don't bother putting the nuts back on when you put your doors on. They don't vibrate out.... ever.

I got some mirror relocation brackets, fitted the mirrors on them and they work a treat. I go door less as often as possible!
