Pulling hilux rear seat out
Pulling hilux rear seat out
Got my 1989 Toyota hilux ln106 double cab thinking about pulling the back seat out and building a tool box where seat goes what would b the go for a wof?? Cheers
Re: Pulling hilux rear seat out
You have to put the seat back in to get a wof. I always have the seatbbase out of my corolla as the seats fold proper flat that way, but always fail a wof untill I put the seat in.
Other option is weld up the seat belt mount holes in the back of your truck and get it certed/rego'd as a two seater. Not 100% sure if that needs a cert but I assume so.

Re: Pulling hilux rear seat out
I wouldnt get too carried away with welding up holes etc.. the SJ has passed around 3 WOF's with seatbelts attached and no rear seat, I believe its just changing it on the reg (4 to 2 seats) but I havnt and its not been a prob
'Drift Spec'... The new "Half Assed"
Re: Pulling hilux rear seat out
in complete contrast to shortylux, my ln106 had no rear in it for approx 10 or so years this was from the previous owner having a box in the back instead. no problems with wof all that time and no he didn't swap them over for wof cos I asked him about it. and the Ute was registered as a 5 seat the whole time.
now if your a young punk and the wof guy doesn't like that then you may run in to issues.
I'd say if you took out the belts and put a tool box in there you shouldn't have a issue. stuff welding them over. that just ruins it when you want to put a seat in.
talk to your wof guy and ask his opinion on it, as I'm not saying it's legal it's just what I've got away with

Calling me a young punk eh? Eh?
Lol. All good. Yeah, what I was saying is my understanding of what is legal. Not what can be got away with. In the six years of owning my corolla maybe half the time they ask/demand that I put the rear seat back in.
I am not a wof or cert man and have been wrong once before.

Re: Pulling hilux rear seat out
All sweet to have no seats for wof (have to have a drivers seat tho!).
Seatbelts can be removed also, or if left there (even incomplete seatbelt parts) have to be up to wof standard.
Ie if you remove rear seat and buckles, but leave retractors in place, the webbing must be good, and retractor lock up etc.
Seatbelts must never be removed leaving seat in place, but vice versa is fine.
(Wof guy will probably just put a note in comments that seat removed- just to cover their ass if you dodgily refit them at a later date)
cheers
