Is that the star shaped one with a pin in the middle? i just put an old socket over the bolt that is a little too small and drive it on with a hammer. insert socket extension and undo.

I wrecked a disco for the motor and box and removed them by applying 12v direct to the two wires going into the detonator lol! passenger side was awesome, huge bang and destroyed dash, drivers side was pretty average tho

No special tools required. Just disconnect battery and wait at least 5 minutes. Then using small 1/4 drive socket set you can undo the two bolts (think 6 or 8mm socket works) on back of steering wheel. Once undone (they don't come out) remove airbag and disconnect red plug.
Passenger one similar but need to remove glove box and reach up to undo 4 bolts.

Technically needs to be certed. Should be ok if its from a safety point of view if using the vehicle offroad

Technically needs to be certified but if you use a dash from a non air bag vehicle and remove all the wiring for the airbags who is to know.

Have such a dash with non airbag steering wheel for sale if interested.

strictly a bush bash build happening here.

having seen a crash where the driver had broken their neck and having seen the impact on young people when their friends have been killed in car crashes i am definitely a believer in airbags.

unfortunately the old stage 1 hasn't got one so i will have to take my chances

Ive got a '96 disco with airbags, and often worry/wonder about what would happen if the damn marshmallows went off when I was off road
