the surf body that is on my truck is a newer model than the chassis and the old fuel tank only had 2 wires coming from it. the body has 3 wires coming from it. i want the low fuel light so i swapped the fuel sensor and wired it up matching the factor colour wires and got nothing. got the volt meter out and the are the results. would love some help.

from instrument panel
YG 11.3V
YR 5.9V
WB 0V

from tank
BW-YR .166ohms resistance that changes as i rock the car. (guess the fuel sloshing)

not to sure where to go with this. have tied as many combanations as i can think.
when i short the YR to the body the gauge goes up.
help?

cheers

Using a meter set to DC voltage, from terminal 1 to ground should be about 4.5 volts going back to cluster. If you remove the cluster, you should have about 55 ohms of resistance between terminals 1 & 2 for the guage (metal bolts on back of cluster).
Reading into the tank from the 3-prong connector between terminals 1 & 3 you should get:
Full = 3 ohms +/- 3
1/2 = 32.5 ohms +/- 4.8
Empty = 110 ohms +/- 7.7
The fuel level warning light (if equipped) comes off terminal 1 & 2 of the 3-prong connector. If you disconnect the connector and turn the key ON, low level should light up.
