i cant decide..

Post by fish »

hi i have recently swooped up a new mitzi, (96, new to me  )
and its running some near bald firestone ats. they are ok i guess but i need a new set soon.

with summer around the corner and a big road trip coming up i want to get my tire selection right. Int the past ive had Ats and one set of maxis mts which were a bit average.

my wagon does some towing and is stock. so 31s or 32s? if im lucky but probably 31s will be my max size. and its my daily driver.
ill be doing lots of ks on the black at first but i will be doing a road trip to queenstown to live in the new year and plan to do some 4wd camping. so i need a tire suitable for that part of the country, sand, gravel, snow, and a little mud here and there. i am happy to sacrifice a little to have a tire that is capable.

ive heard good things about desert duelers but for the extra 30 bucks a Mt is also apealing. is there a Mt that is close to an At, like an in between tire?

I would go for 31's, more common and probably cheaper. Have personally had good results with Hankook's Dynapro MT, they are a fairly mild MT and handle well on and offroad.

I fully endorse this statement. I am running Dynapro mts on my Rugger, I wasn't too sure about using these as daily driver tyres but they are very good on the tar and more than capable off road.
How hard can it be?

Cooper ST or STT the ST is the at style and STT is the muddy but not as aggressive as the std mud tyres

In aussy the tyres are doing 80-100k

Worth looking at

I have a set of 31x10.5x15 GT Savero MTs on my single cab hilux, 1 year and 20,000km later still 8 -10mls of tread in the centre, more at the sides, I run them at 40psi on road, 15 psi off road no tubes.

have used the for few years now and they wear really well and grip and handle really well on the black top. Mould well to ground off road really well which is good for around central otago.

Another hankook fan here, can vouch they do well in sand, mud, black top, theres no snow up there so cant comment on that side, however they've got holes for studs.
