4G63 wide block mitsi lancer/evo engine.
it will have more power and less fuel useage then the astron 2.6 too.
well to be specific it will produce more power for the same amount of fuel.
I'm not a mitsi man only owning a mid 90's vr4 and a v6 94 pajero but it would be cool to see a pajero gearbox GTO v6 turbo engine combo in a ute.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.
Re: my bung 1991 l200
yea was talking to a few people about that conversion
or a evo motor as i can get them cheap as chips but the conversion will be a down the track thing found a replacement block in the south island for 200 or so but will rebuild bottom end witch is easy as

Re: my bung 1991 l200
bit of a up date found out the what killed my bottom end was them stupid balance shaft bearings failing from a blockage in there oil gallery
sum thing so simple can cause so much damage
mean while fully rebuilt the new bottom end with all the goodies for under 400 bucks and removed balance crap from it

Re: my bung 1991 l200
Find out what caused the blockage otherwise it'll just block somewhere else and destroy the engine again.

the blockage was in the balance shaft ive removed them and blocked off there oil galary so should be sweet and getting a new oil pump engine builder said it is very common for them to block
so i should be sweet with no balance crap and a smaller oil pump chain less things to go wrong
Re: my bung 1991 l200

Re: my bung 1991 l200
Does the engine feel any different without the balance shaft? More vibration, rattle, noise, harshness?
Just asking purely out of interest.

Re: my bung 1991 l200
I've got the same Astron II 2.6 in my pajero. Mine is still carby but a bit if a special motor. Runs a nitrided crank, stump puller cam, no bal shafts etc. I didnt notice an increase in vibration after removing the shafts either.
I'm nearly ready to do an efi conversion (have the magna already) which should make it more uniform in terms of performance (especially when up on odd angles lol). They are a good, simple, torquey motor. If you're wanting to go efi let me know we can swap info.
Only thing to watch is the top bolt on the long chain guide...very often breaks after constant vibration over the years. Most timing kits come with an upgraded (larger) bolt which solves that thought.
I personally dont know if I'd want a turbo 2L evo motor in my truck...have a very high hp one in a rwd which is hard enough to hang onto at the best of times...forget it in the wet

Re: my bung 1991 l200
yea i looked at doing that conversion but was like i love my lpg
looked at the evo conversion and have the motor in a box but i dnt need to be going fast or draw attention my self
ill probably be going twin carbs running lpg and normal gass just for the fact the rebuilt motor is relibale as now and only cost sfa to run and i have a spar everything in parts for it now
just the factory carb lets it down

Re: my bung 1991 l200
Make a manny for twin 45s and a decent extractor setup and you'll be off like the proverbial bride's nighty...
I think there is a 16L twin manifold you can buy which shouldn't need much mangling to fit. Dont waste your time with the twin solex etc setup do it once do it right.

Re: my bung 1991 l200
i'm pretty sure there different but if it where me i would sell what you got and buy a diesel one rather than piss around with the conversion and cert and all that jazz, ive got a diesel gearbox i can take a picture of it if you like if that would help, its 2wd but still 4d56
Re: my bung 1991 l200
Diesel 4d56 and petrol 4g54 fit same gearbag. I took the diesel out (seized) and replaced with petrol bolted in sweet as. If you are doing it I'd be keen to suss a deal on your petrol motor?

Rwd 4G54 is wide, fwd 4G54 is narrow. Guy before me cooked motor didnt notice it until it siezed
