Hi,

Hopefully somebody can help with this.

Coming home from my work christmas function I ended up on a tow truck after my truck started pulling to the side. There was also a hot rubbery smell and my front right wheel was wobbly.

I have started stripping the hub and hit a wall. I was able to take the manual hub off.



The tagged locking ring then pretty much fell out(the thread for the 2x screws was inside the larger ring, and the heads no where to be seen). After cleaning all the crap away I tried to punch the larger ring out. I tried punching it out with as big of a swing as I could, using heat on the ring, lots of CRC, and an air hammer tool.



No matter what I do I cannot get it to loosen. Anything else I could try I haven't thought of?

You can make or lend a tool to put some force on the nut but I would of thought a hammer and punch would have removed it.If its real tight I would find a piece of tube that just clears the thread and weld it to the nut,then get into it with a stilson.If your lucky you may salvage the nut but there cheap at Nissan any way.You may also find your stub axle may need replacing.

Thanks guys for the help. In the end I tried the following;

Welding bolts to a pipe that fitted over the stub, then welded a 1m long handle on each end. Using this I bent several sets of bolts before giving up.

I then tried a mates sledge hammer with a bigger punch than I first tried. This didn't work either.

In the end I drilled out the holes you use to punch the lock ring around with a bit that was slightly smaller than the thickness of the ring to avoid damage to the stub axle thread. Once these were drilled out I heated the ring until it was almost glowing. I then used a sledge hammer and cold chisel to split the locking ring off the stub.

Hopefully this can be helpful to anybody else that ends up in my situation.

You can buy a proper tool or make one with a piece of steam pipe and weld two dowels to it to undo them they sell the tools ex auzy for 50 bucks or somethings , get the big bar on the job , good to go !!
