Leaking rear main seal

So just spent $1200 bucks rebuilding the transfer case on my 3.5 Pajero. A day after getting it back from the shop it starts pissing oil out the front of the gearbox where it meets the engine. Pretty certain its engine oil though so its most likely the rear crank seal. Its never dripped anything before and im semi satisfied when the shop says its unrelated but just looking for a second opinion or three. The gearbox never came out of the car, only the rear was disassembled apparently. Is there any way the crank seal could have been damaged while the transfer case was removed/replaced? Its a bit of a coincendence but i work on cars all day and sometimes it happens.

Should check to see what oil it is, gear oil has a pretty distinctive smell.

Yeh the gear oil has a red tinge and this is straight out brown, ive wiped both oils on white paper and it matched engine oil moreso than gear oil. My smell is knackered and i cant notice the difference

i have just developed a leak there this weekend, on my challenger, do pajeros have the inspection plate there? my 4m40 does if you pop that off you will see if its the main seal, how much do you recon it would cost to replace?

Rear main seals arent to bad to do (On hiluxs anyway Mitsi's shouldnt be much different).
Trucked and my self have done both our rear main seals over the last month.
Both times we were finished by around 4ish pm on the sat, Started on friday avo.
If you have your own tools and have a good mechanical understanding then id definatly recommend trying it your self. Otherwise you will be looking to pay around the $1200 mark to get it done
