IS this diagnoses from a compression test ?

the only time i have seen a TD27 or TD42 melt a piston is due to over heating weather it be water pump failure or over fueling.,, either way it's excessive heat that does it and why it is always the back cylinder that fails first.

Egr is usually closest to number also and the carbon near blocks the air to rear cylinder causing excessive EGT

good one thanks for the info- after hearing the loud bang then knoccking i was pretty sure it was terminal, so took off the head to find the buggered pistonhave now replaced the motor, was a busy boxing day but holidays now back on track,

only small problem now is when cruizing along at 100kms the revs jump up by about 100rpm off and on by its self from around 2300 to 2400 rpm
any ideas?

cheers
