boost cut td42?? help!!

Post by 80serieslandy »

recently my safari has had a new turbo put on maybe a month old. works fine boosts well but last trip out it started to "boost cut" as i would put it. it would rev and hit full boost fine (17psi) then maybe 4 seconds into full boost the boost gauge would drop to 4-6 psi. i then had to button off and try the obstacle again but it would keep doing it. iv checked all intercooler piping and cooler. its still getting enough fuel becasue as soon as the boost cuts out clouds of unburnt diesel followed.

was thinking that too. maybe the blocked filter is making the hose behind it collapse

 be ok at the factory 8-10 psi but with age and modifications the factory or ill eqipped plumbing starts to give up the ghost.

There is a pop off valve on the inlet of the TD42 T inlet manifold ,
We sell stainless blanking units to replace them , it will be opening under boost if you have not yet removed it ,
They are $20 inc gst

That would only bleed off excess boost. and it would open at 12-14 psi if was still fitted as all TD**T's are fitted with em up until the introduction of the electronically controlled pumps.

the engine starves out which tells us that it's restricted fuel weather it be air and/or diesel/ Jet A/ kerosene or which ever fuels people choose to run in a competition environment.

some models of WRX, audi, the 4g63T power evo 3's were real bad for it so were RB25det's when the boost got wound up on factory piping.

Also with that cheap silicone crap hosing from supercheap/ repco/ and some sellers on TM will collapse quite easily too as the reenforcing in it is not heavy enough.

A good Exhaust repairer will make you up some nice intake piping out od steel/stainless.

its been turbo'd for over 2-3 years its just a different turbo. all the piping is the same so i cant see it being to do with piping iv cleaned the airfliter out and going to take it for a drive today

Forgive my ignorance, is it external or internal wastegated? My line of thinking is the plunger not seating all the time as it seems there is enough fuel due to the dark exhaust smoke. Also it could be cracked wastegate seat. Sounds like most other bases have been covered. Only other thing that comes to mind is injectors not atomizing properly.

Cheers
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!
