Patrol Springs in Gen2 Paj?

Post by Crayfish »

Gday All,

I'm currently lifting my family truck (91 2.5TD LWB) up just a small amount (wanting 80-100mm via body and suspension) and have a question or three;

- Have heard that some SWB Patrol springs will fit in place of the factory rear coils as opposed to purchasing a new set of Paj specific springs. Just curious as to whether they will have the same spring diameter as the mitsi ones or would a bit of chopping and changing be in order?

- Its been a while since Ive lifted a truck up and back then there was no certification for any lifting/lowering of a vehicle by up to 50mm+/-. This meant you could get away with lifting the suspension by 50mm and the body by the same amount again. Is this still the case in NZ or will i need to take a trip down certification lane in order to gain my 100mm?

-Lastly (for this post anyway) as a semi daily driver, would a balljoint flips cons outweigh its pros? Ive been scouring the world wide web for answers but have found mixed results. Some say it shortened the life of their joints and CVs and others seem to highly recommend it. Any thoughts?

I'm planning to go up to 33x12.5s and am currently running with comfort and plenty of space 265/70/16's so with after the lifting there will be plenty of clearance for the height of the tyres and have been recommended an appropriate offset to ensure the width will be clear. Hopefully the diff ratio will be able to handle the increase in tyre size? But coming from someone who has owned an almost factory Paj for only a small number of years now I would appreciate any advice, thoughts or recommendations from you more experienced gurus.

Cheers a bunch

The old 2.5 will lose a bit of puff pushing 33's, tweaking the boost and fuel and fitting a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust will help to counter the larger tyres.

2" bodylift is all you'll need to clear 33's.
if it's sagged then get some better springs and tweak torsions back to what they were.
gen2 pajeros tend to have more clearance at stock suspension heights than most other stuff with the same sized tyres.

theoretically safari/patrol rear springs will go right in there. often they lift a little more than people expect. I'd only do it if I was carrying a decent load at all times but that's just me.

you can do a similar thing with SWB pajeros by putting LWB springs in them.
nice ol' mitsubishi lego :)
