Wanted - Complete Toyota Electric Hubs

Post by ozrunner »

Hi guys

I want a complete set of Toyota electric hubs including axle shaft if possible.

Will pay outright or source and ship something of equivalent value that you may want from Oz :D

Will keep an eye out for you, will all the electric hubs/shafts be compatable from surfs? (90 onwards)

Keep in mind that youll also need the controll box that times the time that the motor is running.
It appears that is has a voltage cutout in it ,takes about 2 seconds to enguage the hubs, but if the end cap is not fitted then the motors run for about 5 seconds.
If you dont use the controll box then the motors will keep on running as long as there is power to them.

Hi JD , Good to have you on off-road express, hope we can see some photos of your Surf.
You would also need every thing from the stub axle outwards, if you go to photo albums, then page 14 , and to oldblue # 2, this will give you the parts .( slip ring etc )

Thanks Dave. The splines are different but where there's a will there's a way. :D

Kevin

I don't need the control box as that can easily be circumvented but obviously I now need the 12v units, so Prado only.

Yep I need the complete units including stub axle etc etc. I did send you an earlier email reply but seems you may not have got it. I will resend tonight. Time differences mean I am on the board late at night your time.

If anyone knows of some in a wreckers, their phone number would be much appreciated.

Bloody heavy tho, will try and take them down post office tomorrow to get a price.

Let me know if you still want them. I think one needs new bushes or something to work properly.

Cheers,

Bill

Mate, it sounds like your spare parts shed is like mine :D

Is it possible to get new carbon brushes from a dealer in NZ as it probably wouldn't be easy to get them from an Oz dealer, if at all ?

I have found some complete electric hubs at a wreckers but would still want yours as spares so let me know.

I've had a few examinations of my front axle set up etc to see if they can be adapted to the IFS and there are a few major issues. Tomorrow I am visiting a wrecker to "look" for some bits that might make it possible :D

In the meantime I've been looking at auto hubs and AVM make some specifically for the IFS 4Runner and I emailed them in Brazil and got an answer that theirs will NOT unlock when reversing in 4WD etc.

http://www.avm.com.br/products4.htm

The Oz AVM distributor also emailed tonight advising he has found a set in a store in NZ :D and they're on their way :D

If I can't fit the electric units then I'll give these a try.

They look like a copy of the supper winch hubs, and a lot of guys have trouble with broken supper winch hubs.
I don't know if they would be up to a lot of extra V8 power.

Probably right but only one way to find out :D

wjw

Mate I checked the parts today and although I've now worked out how to actually mount these hubs mechanically to my IFS stubs etc a big issue will be getting the power feed to the hubs via the center of the stubs.

The proper stubs have flat encased wires etc and as I have to fit the larger 30 splined axle in a tube set up for a 26 splined axle any wiring will not last long :D .

I'm sure an answer could be found if I gave it more thought but all in all it would mean a lot of machining and work, which I am now inclined to think might not be worth the effort. There's also the issue that if I ever break them it seems it might be difficult to find replacements.

I will now give the auto hubs a trial and if they break then I'll stick with my existing manual hubs :D

But thanks so much for your help and let me know if you require anything in Oz as I'll gladly assist.
